INDIGO & SHIBORI WORKSHOPS

WORKSHOPS

For nearly 20 years Linda has studied different indigo dyeing methods in India, Vietnam and Japan. Most recently she attended a natural dyeing workshop for the master dyer Michel Garcia at Konstfack. She was invited as an "Artist in Residence" in Ajrakhpur, Kutch in India Nov 2019. Where she explored and documented the tradition of using natural pigments in combination with block printing and resist dyeing with indigo and other natural pigments.

Linda holds workshops and lectures for both students and professionals in indigo dyeing, natural dyeing as well as pattern making with different shibori and printing techniques. Shibori is a Japanese word for folding, stitching, weeping, compressing, pleating and in different ways to resist the surface from getting dyed.

In 2018 Linda took a master class for Aboubakar Fofana in Athens. His vision and indigo practise is a great inspiration of hers.

Indigofera Tinctoria

The leaves are placed in pairs along the branches and these are harvested several times a year before the plant blooms. New cultivation is important after a couple of years when the color weakens. The plant thrives in hot and humid climates, but there are also varieties that can be grown in temperate zones. Harvesting and extracting the indigo from the leaves is a time- and labor-intensive process. About 100 kg of leaves are needed to extract 1 kg of color pigments.
